Here are 4 basic and simple steps for a morning skincare routine, based on research, and my personal experience over the years. Let’s get into it!

1. Cleanser
While we sleep, our skin naturally produces oils and releases impurities, and contrary to popular belief, those don’t just rinse off with water.
Using micellar water or a gentle face wash in the morning will help you remove any residue and leave your skin fresh and clean. When I want a deeper cleanse, (especially for my night routine) I like using both, the micellar water and the face wash.
2. Toner
After cleansing, your skin is ready for some hydration, and a good toner will help you balance your skin’s pH and add a boost of moisture.
When applying your toner, avoid dragging it across your skin. Instead, gently tap it in with your hands or a cotton pad. This will ensure absorption and is gentler on the skin.
3. Moisturizer
Hydrated skin = happy skin! No matter your skin type, using a good moisturizer is key to locking in hydration and maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
Aim for a moisturizer that works with your skin type. For example, water gel-based for oily skin, cream-based for dry skin and lightweight oil-free based for combination skin.
Apply evenly across your face and don’t forget the neck!
4. Sunscreen
This is the most essential step in your morning skincare routine. Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen that is:
SPF 30 or higher
Broad-spectrum
Water-resistant
Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays, prevents premature aging, and reduces the risk of sun damage. Even if you’re in a rush, never skip sunscreen.
These 4 steps are an easy way to get started with skincare, and you can always build on them depending on your needs or the occasion. For example, you can add a Vitamin C serum before your moisturizer for a brightening effect, or include an eye cream in your nighttime routine if you're targeting under-eye bags.

Quick tips:
If you’re unsure how your skin might react to a product, choose one made for sensitive or acne-prone skin. These are usually less abrasive and a safer place to start.
Let your skin absorb the product after every step. Give it a few seconds to sink in before the next layer.
